DATS (Digital Accident Tactics Squad) is a secret government organization around the world that’s job is to capture and send back any digimon that enter the human world. It does this by detecting digimon that enter the human world and then dispatching operatives to turn the digimon back into a digitama and send it back to the digital world through the digital dive. Any people that witness the digimon are flashed with a memory erasing device (like Men in Black). The commanders of DATS are Yushima and Satsuma. The members are Masaru and Agumon, Touma and Gaomon, Yoshino and Raramon, Megumi and PawnChessmon, Miki and PawnChessmon, and Yushima’ and Satsuma’s partners, Kamemon and Kudamon.

History
The reason DATS was created was because people began disappearing. Detectives Yushima and Satsuma were assigned to the missing persons cases and ended up working with the Noguchis, Professor Suguru and his assistant Kurata. This group discovered another world, known as the digital world. During their research, they also discovered that the dimensional barrier separating the human and digital worlds was breaking down, allowing humans and digimon to appear in both worlds. This group managed to create a device that could create digital gates to the digital world and one day used it to go looking for the missing people. Once there, they experienced many hard ships. The group (except Suguru) was eventually forced to retreat back to the human world through a digital gate when they were attacked by SaberLeomon.

With the rest of his team through the digital gate, Suguru (Suguru would eventually send plans for the Digivice iC to the human world) stayed behind to prevent SaberLeomon from getting them. Suguru knocks SaberLeomon out and is challenged to a fight by Mercurimon. After they battle, Suguru tells Mercurimon about his group coming to the digital world to find the missing people and how he wishes for peace between the human and digimon. Mercurimon tells him if he wishes for peace he needs to seek out the digital world’s god, Yggdrasil. Suguru leaves Mercurimon who is now guarding the gate because it never closed.

On his journey, Suguru meets up with BanchouLeomon who he befriends and continues his quest to find Yggdrasil with. The two would eventually be confronted by a royal knight, Craniummon, who is a subordinate of Yggdrasil. They battled Craniummon and afterwards would have Yggdrasil reveal himself to them because he was impressed by a human and digimon fighting together. When this meeting occurs, everyone believed a bright future was ahead for humans and digimon.

(Although what I’m about say hasn’t been confirmed in the show, I’m basing everything on tidbits of info that led me to believe what I’m about to type.)

After Suguru, BanchouLeomon, and Yggdrasil’s meeting the formation of DATS must have occurred. We know Kudamon is a royal knight that was sent as an emissary from the digital world. Kudamon would become Satsuma’s partner and a member of DATS. This had to be done by Yggdrasil in response to Suguru’s request for peace because the royal knights obey Yggdrasil. During this period it is also likely that the plans for the Digivice iC were sent to the digital world, probably with Kudamon.

Ten years later, when the show occurs, DATS would be dismissed. The digimon appearing began causing too much damage for a government official looking over DATS, Chief Hashiba, to take. Chief Hashiba brought in a man named Kurata to assist the current operatives of DATS when their digimon were unable to handle the new threats entering the human world (SaberLeomon and his invasion). Kurata and Masaru and co. would go to the digital world to kill Mercurimon who was at that time viewed as their enemy. While there, Masaru and co. would learn that Kurata was behind the digimon massacre (“Humans” were behind a massacre of the digimon. It was really Kurata and his men who did this because they viewed digimon as a threat to the human world) which was why digimon hated humans so much and invaded. They would fight Kurata and win. However, Kurata would flee to the human world and tell Chief Hashiba that Masaru and co. betrayed him. When Masaru and co. would return, Chief Hashiba would be waiting to disband DATS and arrest everyone.

At the end of the series the people made up DATS and never really let it die (yes it was disbanded, but all the true members continued working together as a team), would disband it because the dimensional barrier was now repaired and Yggdrasil was defeated (don’t know what I’m talking about? Watch the show!). Everyone’s partner digimon returned to the digital world and went on to different careers.
