The standard Disith ship is the Reparation-class battleship. (To the Disith, reparation means to strike down where as it use to mean to ammend) The ship is the result of the Disith continually crossing the grand stream to invade Anatoray. Because they had to cross the grand stream to invade Anatoray, and couldn’t repair at adequate facilities once there, the Disith had to create a very flexible ship. The Disith used interlocking steel frames in a truss pattern to achieve a strong ship that was capable of withstanding the extremes provided by the grand stream. However, this makes it a weaker ship (armor wise) than the Anatoray ships when it comes to ship to ship combat. BUT, many battles are resolved by musketeers because of the guild’s rules. Due to this, the Disith carry more musketeers than the Anatoray (around 200 more). Also, their initial thinking was that a truss structure could minimize damage from a shell and be easier to repair. In the end they discovered if the frame was destroyed then the damage would be greater.
The weaponry on the Disith battleships was designed for an assault from above the enemy. Disith ships always descend from the skies to begin their cannon battles. This is why the turrets are on the bottom of the ship. We also find the Disith have installed a bomb rack to wreak havoc on urban areas. Notes: Another reason for more musketeers and possibly less cannons is that due to the state of affairs in Disith, the state could no longer afford to train large amounts of sailors (sailors had to be very well trained to navigate the grand stream and operate the ship) but musketeers didn’t require the same amount of training. |
