The episode begins with Touma asking for time off to leave for America and investigate his theory that Digimon and human emotions are related. Masaru complains that Touma gets timed off but forgets when Megumi and Miki (The two girls who operate the computer systems in DATS) walk in with a box full of Suzaku manjuu. When they open the box they discover they’re gone and that Agumon ate them. They get really angry at Agumon who says, “the henchmen’s failures are the aniki’s failures!” Masaru says his friend owns a really famous manjuu place and that he’ll be able to get them really fast even though there is a waiting list.
When he arrives at his friends place he sees Shiratori senior being harassed by loan sharks. Masaru interferes and scares them away. Koichiro, Masaru’s friend, appears and Masaru tells him he is there for manjuu. However, Koichiro said when the manjuu boom ended and his mom got sick his dad stopped making manjuu and ran into financial trouble.
Shiratori senior is seen in his shed searching in boxes for money to pay off the loan sharks with. A digital gate opens and a Vilemon with three DemiDevimon appear to help him get his money.
At HQ Megumi and Miki wonder where Masaru is with the manjuu and notice a Digimon appear and disappear in Masaru’s location. Yoshino says she will go investigate and pick up Masaru. When she arrives, Shiratori senior is leaving with that month’s rent and Koichiro tries to stop his dad but is unsuccessful. Masaru and Yoshino follow Shiratori senior to the horse races where he is gambling that month’s rent on the races.
Shiratori senior chants the numbers of the three horses he betted on and the DemiDevimon appear at the races. They shoot the three horses so that they run harder and finish in the order Shiratori senior wanted-which earns him a lot of money. Yoshino and Masaru detect a Digimon presence but aren’t sure where it is coming from. Yoshino says they should go back to HQ and investigate but Masaru said he made a promise to bring back Shiratori senior and manjuu.
That night in his shed, Shiratori senior is thanking the Vilemon and DemiDevimon for helping him get enough money to pay off his debts. Scenes are shown of him and the DemiDevimon at the races more and more.
Masaru and Koichiro are chatting about Koichiro’s dream of taking over his family’s sweetshop when his dad pulls up in a really expensive sports car. Koichiro begs his dad to quit gambling but his dad just talks about the god of good fortune blessing him and drives away. Later that day the two boys sit by a river and Koichiro tells Masaru how you make manjuu and how he has been unsuccessful in trying to do so. Masaru asks Koichiro about the “god of good fortune” and Koichiro says it is a statue his dad keeps in his shed.
That night Masaru and Koichiro investigate Shiratori senior’s shed to see what he does in there and discover the statue. Koichiro’s dad appears and says to step away from the god of good fortune. Masaru confronts Shiratori senior about his gambling and says that you can’t buy happiness with money and that he needs to help his son achieve his dreams of taking over the sweet shop. Shiratori senior gets angry which causes Vilemon to change from a statue into his Digimon form.
DATS HQ detects Vilemon at last and realizes he was in a sleep form that prevented them from detecting him. Vilemon and the DemiDevimon fight DATS and tell them that humans are selfish and they only gave the man money because he wanted it. Masaru gets his digisoul and evolves Agumon into GeoGreymon who reduces Vilemon and the three DemiDevimon into digitamas.
Shiratori senior cries over the money that was destroyed during the fight but Koichiro says they still have the store and they can go back into the manjuu making business. Koichiro also says he wants to make sweets for a living and his dad says he will teach him everything he knows. Masaru finally delivers the manjuu and tells Satsuma he believes Digimon are reacting to human greed. Touma returns from his trip and says that is not it and that an emergency notification needs to be sent out. However, we’re not told why… |
