Exile is a space ship that was designed to transport colonies of people between Earth and the world of Prester. Since it's arrival in Prester, however, it seems it was sealed away in the Grand Stream. Once it is reactivated, it can travel back in forth between the two worlds (Earth and Prester) and requires no crew except activation by Alvis and the Mysteria.

Exile starts out with a protective cocoon and a defense consisting of thousands of tentacles are snap out and crush ships. When Anatoray and Disith battle the Guild for control of Exile, both sides lose most of their fleet. As Mysteria are said, Exile begins to toss away it's defenses. After two mysterian are given by Delphine, Exile trusts her ship but no other guild ship.

When Claus says three of the mysteria, Exile does away with the grand stream-which seems to act as a defense.

Throughout the series we learn that Exile is what gave the Guild all it's power, although we don't know why the Guild doesn't still maintain control of Exile. We also know that when Alex was trying to cross the grand stream with Claus and Lavie's dads/Yuris, Delphine was aboard Exile watching them die.

I speculate when the Guild had it's rebellion (Which is where Marius escaped to Anatoray aboard the Guild Warship and why Ressius is aboard the Silvana) it must've lost it's ability to operate Exile because it no longer possessed the Bassianus, Hamilton, and Dagobear mysterian.

There is also the possibility the old key to Exile died. We know that Delphine was last seen aboard Exile ten years before the events in the show occur. Alvis is eleven and couldn't of possibly opened Exile before her birth or during her younger years. So during this period the Guild wouldn't of been able to control Exile.
