Last Exile begins with a battleship called the Silvana navigating through the grand stream. Outside of the Silvana a vanship, piloted by Tatiana, is searching for a group of battleships from the Disith Kingdom.  The Vice-captain of the Silvana, Sophia Forrester, tells Tatiana to return to the Silvana but she says she can accomplish her mission if she is given a few more seconds. The captain, Alex Rowe, tells her she has ten more seconds and lucky for her, the Disith fleet then appears from the upper part of the grand stream.

Sohpia orders Tatiana to return and the flight deck crew begin to reel her back in. The Silvana begins to open fire on the Disith fleet and hits two of their battleships. The Disith fleet maintain their course and disappear into some clouds. The Silvana then exits the grand stream as the Disith Fleet is now gone.

                We now see a town built into the sides of a canyon where Claus Valca and Lavie Head’s workshop is located. Claus is working on making their vanship lighter while Lavie is complaining about the price of a acceleration booster going up because of Disith invading Minagith.

While their eatting a bell goes off and they prepare their vanship for a race. They take off joining a group of vanships that are requesting missions from a post. Lavie tells Claus to resquest a level 3 danger rating mission so that they can make more money. They get their mission and head off.

Elsewhere we see a guildship giving permission to Anatoray and Disith fleets to begin the third Minagith naval battle.

Claus and Lavie arrive at the delivery point. Lavie notices the water at a fountain and how clean it is. They both take a drink from it. A butler appears and Claus says they’re from the vanship union. Inside a mansion at the delivery point, a women is telling the two that they cannot take the mission because they are kids. The butler tells the women that their flight record is good. She then agrees to allow them to take up the mission and tells them to deliver it to Lieutenant Mad-Thane and no one else. At the last moment his daughter runs in with a letter to her father. Claus, noticing the girl is kind of shakey, reassures the girl that the letter will reach her father.

Back at the battle aboard a Anatoray ship, we see soldiers preparing for the battle. A soldier named Mullin Shetland is chanting to himself that bullets will avoid his body. “Disith bullets will avoid, Mullin Shetland’s body.” Flares are fired from Disith. Orders from Anatoray command are given out to send the firing squad out. Lieutinenat Mad-Thane gives a short speech about pride and chilvalry. A second in command guy broadcasts to the fleet that if they lose at Minageth the enemy’s sword will be pointed at their throats.

The Anatoray fleet begins to advance. The musket squad begins to load their guns and connect the steam tubes (these are steam powered guns). A ramp lowers and we see Disith soldiers looking back at the Anatoray musket squad. Mullin continues chanting at Mad-Thane gives the order to begin firing. The ships open fire along with the musket-squad. After a line of soldiers drop Mullin rushes forward.

At a refueling depot Claus and Lavie learn that upahead a battle is going on. They learn they won’t be able to refuel there on the way back because the ship is getting away from the battle.
Back at the battle Anatoray commanders receive reports that their strategy is working and want a cease fire.

Lavie and Claus appear alongside a Anatoray ship and see all the dead musketeers. Mad-thane learns his request for a cease fire is denied so he orders the return of the musket squads and to open fire ship-to-ship. Inside his ship Mullin is crying while outside Anatoray seems to be winning the battle.

Lavie and Claus reach the Claimh Solais, Mad-Thanes command ship, and begin telling them they wish to land to deliver the letters to Mad-Thane. They receive permission to land and are escorted by a soldier who tells the two that Anatoray has won the battle. Out of no where the Anatoray fleet begins taking fire. We learn that it is not coming from the Disith fleet that they’re currently engaged with but from above. Anatoray command gets pissed off because this is apparently against guild regulation.

Lavie and Claus appear on deck and Lavie spouts off her mouth about how this was supposedly a victory already. The newly emerging ships continue to fire upon the Anatoray fleet.

Notes: -Claus and Lavie’s home town is called Norkia.
-Claus and Lavie are part of the sky courier union. They basically take on a letter to deliver that has a danger rating on it. In this episode, it was a 3 which took them straight into a battle.
-The world is called Prester.
-The guild seems to possess all the technology in Prester. When a Anatoray/Disith ship is sinking a core ejects itself which is like the engine. The core has guild engineers inside.They units are called Claudia units.
-The Guild has set rules for each battle however in this episode they favor Disith and allow Disith to break the rules of battle when Disith launches a surprise attack above the Anatoray fleet.
-The Grand Stream is a giant air stream high in the air that has constant thunder storms and is very tough to navigate. We see Tatiana’s van ship has to be connected to the Silvana by a wire while in the grand stream.
