Zabuza asks Gato why he is at the bridge with a bunch of thugs. Gato tells Zabuza that there is a change in plans and that he will die. He explains to Zabuza that he is too expensive and has been taken off the payroll. Gato goes on to mock Zabuza. Zabuza tells Kakashi that since he is no longer after the bridge builder they have no quarrel. Gato walks up to Haku’s corpse and kicks his head for breaking his arm earlier in the series. Naruto rushes Gato but Kakashi holds him back. Naruto asks Zabuza if he is going to let him do that. Zabuza says Haku is dead and it doesn’t matter. Zabuza goes on to say that he merely used Haku.
“Why you…you ungrateful…after everything he did for you; Haku lived for you! You were the most important thing in the world to him and he meant nothing to you, nothing at all? While he was sacrificing everything for you, you never felt anything at all for him? And if I become stronger does that mean I’ll become as cold-hearted as you are? He threw his life away, and for what, for you and your dream? You never let him have a dream of his own, but he didn’t care. And you just toss him aside like he was nothing; a broken tool. Man, that’s so wrong. So wrong! “-Naruto
Zabuza tells Naruto that his words cut deeper than any blade and that while Haku fought Naruto his heart was breaking in two. He goes on to say that he feels contempt because of the way everything is ending. Zabuza rips his bandages off his face with his teeth. Zabuza asks Naruto for his kunai and Naruto tosses it to him. Zabuza thinks of Haku and holds the Kunai in his teeth. Zabuza rushes Gato who runs into the group of thugs for protection. Zabuza takes down many of the thugs with the kunai and eventually reaches Gato with numerous spears in his back. Zabuza stabs Gato with the kunai but is then stabbed once more by the thugs. Gato tells Zabuza that if he wishes to join Haku then that is fine but he won’t be dying with them. Zabuza tells Gato where Haku has gone he cannot follow.
“We wouldn’t be welcomed where Haku has gone to. Hells where we’re going, Gato! I can’t think of a more fitting destination for a demon ninja, can you? I’m told there are many demons down there of all shapes and sizes. Oh yes, I should fit right in. You on the other hand Gato, well I fear you are in for a long and very fearful eternity.”-Zabuza
Zabuza finishes off Gato with numerous slashes of his Kunai and Gato falls into the water. Zabuza looks at the thugs and they step away from him. He begins walking towards Haku’s corpse but falls to his knees. Zabuza sees Haku’s spirit and asks Haku to forgive him for never saying thank you. Zabuza then falls to the ground.
Sasuke wakes up to see Sakura and Tazuna above him. Sasuke asks Sakura what happened to Haku and she tells him he is dead. Sasuke realizes Haku never meant to kill him (meaning he just knocked him out, making him appear dead like he did to Zabuza to trick Kakashi and co.) We hear Zabuza’s words telling us that Haku was too soft.
The thugs tell Naruto and co. that they’re going to raid the village since Gato isn’t around to pay them. The thugs rush Naruto and co. but are stopped by an arrow. Inari and the village appear telling the thugs they’ll have to go through them. Naruto and Kakashi create shadow clones to join the villagers in their fight. The thugs retreat into a boat.
Kakashi walks up to Zabuza. Zabuza asks Kakashi to carry him to Haku so that he can see him one last time. Kakashi carries him over to Haku and then lays him next to Haku. It begins to snow (the villagers are shocked to see it snowing at this time of year.) Zabuza wonders if the snow is really Haku weeping. Zabuza tells Haku that he was always by his side so it is only fitting for him to be at Haku’s side. Zabuza says he wishes that he could go to where Haku has gone and then dies. (As Zabuza is saying his final words to Haku, we see a tear leave Haku’s eye.) Naruto cries and says Haku had told him where he was from it was always snowing. Kakashi says Haku’s spirit was as pure as snow and that Zabuza may end up with Haku.
At Haku and Zabuza’s graves, Kakashi and co. wonder about a ninja’s purpose. Naruto tells the group he is going to find his own ninja way.
The village gathers at the completed bridge to say good bye to Naruto and co. Naruto and Inari start crying and then the group leaves across the bridge. Someone in the village wonders what they should call the bridge and Tazuna says they’ll call it the “Great Naruto Bridge”. |
