	Sakura gathers Sasuke and Naruto and leaves the application turn-in area. Neji and Tenten start to leave as well so they can check in but Lee doesn’t join them because he says he needs to check something out. Lee stops Sasuke and co. in a large area and says he wants to fight Sasuke. Lee introduces himself to show common courtesy and then says that he wishes to see if the Uchiha clan is as powerful as people claim. He goes on to tell Sakura that he loves her. Sakura says Lee is a weirdo. Lee responds by blowing a wave of kisses that Sakura manages to dodge. Naruto gets angry because everyone wants to fight Sasuke. Sasuke tells Lee that he will teach him everything he wants to know about the Uchiha clan through fighting. As Sasuke and Lee are about to begin fighting, Naruto says he wants Lee first. Sasuke tells him to go ahead but Lee says no. Naruto attacks Lee and Lee knocks him to the side with a leap whirlwind. Lee tells Sasuke to fight him because he the best genin. Sakura tells Sasuke there is not enough time because they need to finish registering for the exams. Sasuke charges Lee and the two begin fighting. Lee kicks Sasuke in the face and sends him flying with a leap hurricane. Sasuke wonders what type of jutsu Lee is using so he activates his sharingan eye. Sakura is very impressed because she didn’t know Sasuke had gained the sharingan. Sasuke charges Lee once more but Lee kicks him into the air. Lee tells Sasuke that his jutsu isn’t genjutsu or ninjutsu and then rushes Sasuke. Naruto wakes up to see Sasuke and Lee fighting. Lee tells Sasuke he is using taijutsu which is straight martial arts. He also tells Sasuke that his sharingan won’t work on taijutsu because there are no tricks to it like with ninjutsu and genjutsu. Lee tells Sasuke that there are two different types of ninja, those born with talent, and those who must work to get strong. Lee attacks Sasuke and sends him into the air. Lee appears behind Sasuke in the air and tells him that he is finished. Lee un-wraps the bandages on his arm and tells Sasuke that he will prove hard work beats out natural talent. A turtle appears and tells Lee that is enough. Sakura catches Sasuke as he falls to the ground. Lee goes to kneel in front of the turtle. Naruto wonders what Lee did to beat up Sasuke so bad. Lee asks the turtle if he was watching the entire time. The turtle tells Lee that he shouldn’t had used the technique he was going to use on Sasuke because it is forbidden. Naruto realizes that the turtle is Lee’s sensei and tells Sasuke and Sakura. Lee tries to explain why he was going to use a forbidden jutsu but his turtle sensei tells him there are no excuses. The turtle asks him if he is ready for his punishment and Lee says yes. A man appears named Gai, who is really Lee’s sensei. Naruto and co. realize Lee’s weirdness comes from Gai. Gai punches Lee to the ground as his punishment. He then kneels at his side and apologizes saying it is for his own good. Lee and Gai stare into each other’s eyes and begin crying by the sun, with ocean waves splashing in the background. Sakura and Sasuke are freaked out by Gai and Lee’s show of affection but Naruto thinks it’s sweet. Gai tells Lee to run into the setting sun and do 100 laps. Sakura reminds Gai and Lee that there is no time because of the chunin exams. Gai tells Lee that since he interrupted the chunin exams then he needs to run 500 laps. Gai notices that Naruto and co. must be Kakashi’s squad and asks about Kakashi. He then goes on to explain that he and Kakashi are rivals. Gai appears behind Naruto and co. and tells them that Gai’s wins are 50 and Kakashi’s are 49. Gai tells Lee to go with Naruto and co. to the class room and then disappears with his turtle. Lee rewraps his hand and tells Sasuke that he really wishes to defeat Neji, not Sasuke. But after their fight, Sasuke became a target. Lee then disappears and Naruto says the Uchiha’s aren’t as great as everyone claims. Sasuke gets angry and Sakura tells Naruto to shut up. Naruto says that Lee must train harder than Sasuke because he noticed hands were beat up after he took off the bandages. Sasuke regains his composure and tells Naruto and Sakura to come on.
