Naruto and his shadow clones are working with Sasuke to catch some fish for breakfast. Naruto and his clones scare some fish and Sasuke hits them with some kunais. Sakura tells Sasuke he needs him for his fireball jutsu so they can light a camp fire. Later on they begin cooking the fish and Sasuke begins discussing how it has already been four days since the test began and they only have one day left. Sakura wonders how many teams have already finished and Naruto wonders when the fish will be done. Naruto begins plotting to snag the biggest fish before Sasuke and Sakura.

Elsewhere three ninja are discussing what they should about getting their second scroll. They decide to stop and take a break. One of them leaves to get food and the other two begin discussing the other scroll they need. One of them brings up what the heaven scroll looks like. The other asks why and notices his comrade laughing.

Naruto and co. begin eating their fish. Sakura says there may not be any heaven scrolls left because of how much time has passed and how few teams are allowed to pass (13 can pass). Sasuke wonders if they took too much time off from their last break but then decides they need to get serious. Sasuke then leaves to get some water. Naruto picks up the earth scroll and whispers to Sakura he knows what to do without fighting. Naruto picks up his bag and pours out his scrolls. Naruto tells Sakura they can make one of his scrolls look like the heaven scroll. Sakura says no because they don’t know what would be on the inside of the scroll. Naruto says he has it figured out and says it probably is a code word that works with the other scroll and allows you to get into the tower at the end of the exam. Sakura calls him a nimrod and asks how they are going to fake what is inside a heaven scroll. Naruto says if they read the earth scroll they may be able to figure out what is inside the heaven scroll. Naruto says he is going to open it so Sakura hits him and reminds him of the rules. Naruto says they’ll never make it if they don’t. Naruto and Sakura look at the scrolls laid out and begin to think.

The two ninja from earlier slowly begin to open their scroll.

Naruto and Sakura have decided to open the earth scroll and nervously look at it.

The two ninja open their scroll completely and then scream. Their comrade hears them and drops the food he has collected. Their comrade arrives to see his teammates lying against a wall. He asks them what is wrong and then notices their scroll is open.

Naruto slowly opens their earth scroll but then Kabuto appears and tells him he shouldn’t do that. Sasuke notices Kabuto and rushes to Naruto and Sakura. Later on, Sasuke learns what Naruto and Sakura were trying to do. Kabuto tells the three there have been others who tried to peak at the scrolls. Kabuto explains the scrolls are protected by a hypnosis jutsu that will knock the reader senseless. He goes on to say you won’t wake up until the exam is over. Sasuke asks Kabuto why is wandering around by himself. Kabuto says he’s not after their scroll. Sasuke believes him because Kabuto would’ve swiped theirs but then thinks Kabuto is also after a heaven scroll. Kabuto says he has both and is on his way to the tower to meet up with his teammates. Sasuke tells him to wait and says he will fight him for it.

In some trees a ninja watches on (the same one that first attacked Sasuke and co.).

Kabuto asks Sasuke if he is serious. Naruto and Sakura tell Sasuke to back off because Kabuto saved them. Sasuke says it can’t be helped because it’s him or them. Kabuto says Sasuke is lying because his heart isn’t really in it and points out that if he was serious he wouldn’t have announced his intentions. Kabuto goes on to ask why not jump him while his guard was down like a true ninja. Naruto thinks that what Kabuto is saying is really deep. Kabuto tells Sasuke that it is ok and that he actually admires Sasuke for his open challenge. Kabuto offers to show Sasuke and co. the path they should take to the tower but warns them they must hurry because their camp fire will lead every beast and ninja in the forest to them. Kabuto briefly looks directly at the ninja hiding in the trees. The ninja disappears.

Later that day Kabuto and Sasuke and co. are traveling towards the tower. Sasuke asks Kabuto if he thinks there are still scrolls out in the forest. Kabuto says yes and tells them to think about the most efficient way to search for scrolls. He says it isn’t to search through the forest like they were doing but to wait at the tower when every team will be converging on it to turn in their scrolls. Sakura says all they have to do is set up an ambush. Kabuto says they won’t be the only ones doing that. Naruto says the more the merrier. Kabuto says there is more to it and tells them about “collectors”. Collectors gather extra sets of scrolls to bribe themselves out of unsuspected situations, to give them to those in their village, to keep some from passing, or to steal them for dark purposes. Sasuke says he understands why Kabuto brought them along now and asks Kabuto if he is frightened. Kabuto tells Sasuke he is.

Kabuto and co. arrive at the outskirts of the tower. Naruto yells for the ninja to bring it on. Sakura says someone is nearby so Naruto throws a kunai. His kunai kills a giant centipede. Kabuto tells Naruto to keep it down because people will hear him. Kabuto and co. split up and slowly make their way towards the tower. After a while they regroup and run into some dead ninja that were caught in a trap. As they leave the scene, Naruto sets off another trap. Kunai shoot towards Naruto and Kabuto pushes him out of the way. Kabuto gets hit with the kunai in his back. However, Naruto looks closer and notices that Kabuto used a substitution jutsu to avoid getting hit. Kabuto and co. continue to make their way and Sakura asks how far they have walked because the tower isn’t getting closer and she is getting tired. Kabuto says they have been spotted and someone is playing games with them. Kabuto then points to the centipede Naruto killed earlier. Sasuke says it is genjutsu. Kabuto says they were too concerned with not be seeing so they didn’t see they were walking around in circles. Sasuke asks what they’re planning and Kabuto says it is to wear them down. Sasuke says they’re worn down now and Kabuto says they’ll strike soon. In the branches around them, forty ninja appear and surround Kabuto and co.

The ninja from earlier and his teammates watch on from the safety of the forest.

Sasuke tells Naruto he wanted a fight and he got it. Naruto says he likes the odds of forty against four.
