Kabuto, Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura are surrounded by what they believe to be replicas. Naruto attacks one of the clones with a punch but instead of destroying the clone, Naruto’s fist simply passes through the clone and the clone repairs itself. Sasuke uses his sharingan to see what types of clones these are and then uses a kunai to save Naruto from a clone. One of the clones throws a kunai at Sasuke and Kabuto pushes Sasuke down, saving him. However, Kabuto receives a cut. Sasuke freezes up and his curse mark begins hurting. The clones start chanting, “Surrender your scrolls”.  Naruto wonders if these are shadow clones because they were able to hurt Kabuto but then considers them to be part of a genjutsu because they aren’t easily destroyed. Naruto begins to attack but Sasuke tells him to wait because they’re only illusions. Sakura asks how they are able to attack then and Kabuto says the real ninja are hiding behind the clones and attacking in coordination with them. Naruto says they should go find them but Kabuto tells him to wait because the ninja would love for them to go searching blindly in the forest while they take them out. Kabuto tells the group that the kind of ninja who use this kind of attack are weak in taijutsu and hand to hand combat. He goes on to say the only thing they can do is hold their ground.

The enemies wonder how long Naruto and co. can hold out.

The clones attack Kabuto and co. once more. Sakura wonders how long this will go and Naruto begins to use his shadow clone jutsu but Kabuto tells him to wait because he’ll waste his chakra. Naruto says if they destroy the clones then the real ninja won’t be able to hide behind them. Naruto uses the shadow clone jutsu and then rushes the clones. The two sets of clones start fighting. Sakura asks Sasuke if they should help Naruto and Sasuke says they don’t have a choice now. Kabuto and co. join in the fray.

Next morning, the fight is still going on. Kabuto, Sasuke, and Sakura fall to their knees. Naruto says he is just warming up.

From the bushes, the real enemies decide it is time to move in for the kill since the sun is coming up.

The clones disappear and the real enemy ninja appear. One of the enemy ninja realizes he had fought Sasuke before and tells him he can now pay him back (when this part of the exam first began). Naruto gets a smile on his face and we hear Sasuke asking the ninja who the cornered rats are now. Sakura tells Naruto it worked like a charm and we see Kabuto, Sasuke, and Sakura behind the enemy ninja. Naruto makes the Sasuke, Sakura, and Kabuto next to him turn back into his shadow clones. Naruto and co. explain to the enemy ninja that they hid in the forest and allowed their clones to take a beating to draw the enemy out. Sasuke tells Naruto to take a break (he fought alongside his clones) but Naruto punches all three of the ninja and tells his comrades after all his work he won’t let them have all the fun. Sasuke wonders if this could be the same Naruto and when did he get so good. Kabuto is shocked at how resilient Naruto’s chakra is and thinks that if he was to ever master it then he could be unstoppable. The three enemy ninja use fog clone jutsu to make more clones of them. Naruto thinks these are shadow clones but Sasuke tells him they are real clones and that he should let them make the first move. Naruto thinks that he just has to smash his way through the clones until he finds the real ones. Sasuke and Sakura tell him to wait but Naruto charges in. Sasuke prepares to rush in to help but his curse mark causes him to freeze up. Kabuto goes in after Naruto. Naruto punches through each clone and Kabuto tells him to wait. Sasuke manages to use sharingan even with the pain and then falls to his knees. Sakura sees that his mark is causing the pain and then tells Sasuke not to use his sharingan again. Naruto looks to see what is going on with Sasuke and one of the enemy ninja takes the opportunity to attack him. Kabuto pushes Naruto out of the way but gets struck with the kunai. Naruto asks Kabuto if he is ok and sees that his leg is injured. Naruto tells the enemy ninja they will pay but Sasuke tells him to wait because the real ninja aren’t with the clones. Naruto asks how that could be because they hurt Kabuto but Sasuke says he doesn’t know. Naruto thinks to himself that he won’t be able to use the shadow clone jutsu anymore because he is exhausted. One of the clones leaps at Naruto and then three ninja appear underneath Naruto. Sasuke realizes the real ninja have been hiding in the ground while they are focused on their clones. One of the real enemy ninja strikes Kabuto with his kunai from the ground and Kabuto falls. The real enemy ninja emerge from the ground and Kabuto gets a crazed look in his eye. Naruto kicks all three of the real enemy ninja and all the clones disappear. Kabuto sits up and returns to his happy self, thanking Naruto for helping him. Sasuke watches Kabuto from the side as he had seen the look Kabuto had in his eyes. Naruto searches through the enemy’s belongings for a scroll. Kabuto notices the curse mark on Sasuke’s neck and asks Sasuke what it is. Sasuke covers it up and says it is nothing. Naruto discovers a heaven a scroll which completes their set. Sasuke thinks to himself that there is something about Kabuto that he doesn’t like.

Later that day, Kabuto and co. arrive at the tower. Kabuto’s teammates show up and tell Kabuto he is late. Naruto says if it wasn’t for Kabuto then they wouldn’t have gotten the scroll. Kabuto says they got it thanks to Naruto. The two groups split up and then enter the tower through separate doors.

Kabuto’s team arrives in a room and we hear a man asking Kabuto if it was a “good harvest”? Kabuto tells the man he learned a lot about “him” and recorded it all on one of the cards. Kabuto hands the man the card and the man asks Kabuto what he thought. The camera pans over and we see Orochimaru.

“Your curiosity is truly insatiable Lord Orochimaru.”-Kabuto

Orochimaru tells Kabuto that as a sound village spy his opinion is of interest. Kabuto says it doesn’t matter because Orochimaru always decides. Orochimaru disappears telling Kabuto he did a good job.

In another room Naruto wonders why no one is there waiting for them. Sasuke gets off Sakura’s shoulder telling her he can manage which makes her mad because she was enjoying him touching her. Sakura points out a giant scroll on the wall and begins reading it.

“If qualities of heaven are your desire, acquire wisdom to take your mind higher. If earthly qualities are what you lack, train your body and prepare to attack. When heaven and earth are opened together, the perilous path will become righteous forever. This >blank< is the secret way that guides us from this place today.”-Scroll on the wall

The group wonders what word is missing and Sakura says they’re probably supposed to open the scrolls now. Naruto and Sakura each take one of the scrolls and slowly peel open the scroll.

Note (SPOILER): If you’re wondering why Kabuto got a crazed look in his eye during the battle, he is actually MUCH stronger than he leads on. Not only is he a spy for Orochimaru, but he is his right hand man and later in the series is able to go toe-to-toe with one of the legendary Senin, Tsunade.
