Deidara reaches into his bag and then jumps onto his bird with Gaara’s sand in pursuit. Gaara’s sand chases Deidara to the outskirts of the village and then into the streets of the village. Some guards witness Deidara being chased by the sand and wonder what’s going on. Deidara says to himself that he is almost ready and then is forced higher into the air when Gaara’s sand appears in front of him. Deidara then retreats to the edge of the village once more, looking down at Gaara. He thinks to himself that Gaara is pretty good. Gaara renews his assault with his sand and then jumps on it, joining Deidara in the air. Deidara thinks to himself that Gaara is a pretty useful Jinchuuriki and then comments to Gaara that he noticed his infiltration pretty quickly. Gaara tells Deidara that birds like the one he is riding don’t exist in the desert. Deidara replies, “I see.”

Down below, a sand ninja discovers the corpse of one of the sky watchers that Deidara had killed. The ninja looks to the sky to see the Kazekage and Deidara. The ninja alerts Kankuro and tells him that something weird has infiltrated the village. Kankuro asks him what he means by that and goes on to say that Yuura made sure the security was beefed up. The ninja tells Kankuro that they are unable to contact Captain Yuura. Kankuro is surprised.

From the outskirts of the village, Sasori and Yuura watch the battle rage on. Sasori says that he should’ve known Deidara wouldn’t cause an up roar. He then tells Yuura that he should head back or else there will be problems if the villagers discover him at his side. Yuura leaves. Sasori says to himself that Deidara needs to hurry up because he hates to be kept waiting.

Kankuro enters Gaara’s office to see him missing and wonders where he is. A sand ninja appears and tells Kankuro that the Kazekage is fighting in the sky. Kankuro runs to a window and sees his younger brother and Deidara in the sky.

Around the village, sand ninja have appeared and are looking to the skies.

Deidara tells Gaara that it seems his stealth moves have failed but thanks to that he doesn’t have to waste time searching for him. Deidara zooms in on Gaara with his left eye. Gaara lifts his arms and sand from the village floor rises up. Deidara says to himself that as expected Gaara has the advantage and the situation could get ugly. Meanwhile, his hand continues chewing clay that he withdrew from his bag earlier.

In the forest, Naruto evades four kunai. Naruto jumps into the air and sees Kakashi, throwing kunai of his own. Kakashi jumps out of the way. When he lands he is met by Sakura, who tries to punch him. Kakashi grabs Sakura’s right arm and holds her still. He notices that “Sakura” is really one of Naruto’s shadow clones so he destroys it with a kick. Sakura jumps downwards at Kakashi with a punch ready. Kakashi jumps out of the way knowing it will be over if she even grazes him. Sakura misses, her punch ripping the earth apart in every direction. Kakashi is chased to a river by Naruto and Sakura. Kakashi names off the third shinobi tactical knowledge, ninjutsu. Kakashi begins using some hand seals and Naruto and Sakura are shocked at his speed. Kakashi uses Great Fireball jutsu but Naruto and Sakura leap out of the way. Naruto looks around to see where Kakashi has gone to. To his surprise, Kakashi’s arm flies out of the ground, grabbing Naruto’s leg. Kakashi uses Double Suicide Decapitation jutsu which immobilizes Naruto in the ground. Kakashi appears before Naruto but Naruto disappears, revealing “Naruto” to be a shadow clone. Naruto and Sakura charge Kakashi who jumps onto the river and performs Water Dragon Projection jutsu. The water dragon floods the ground, overcoming Naruto and Sakura. Once the water has washed arrive, Kakashi is alone, catching his breath.

Naruto and Sakura have retreated into the forest and are discussing Kakashi’s ability to use fire, earth, and water techniques in combination like he did. Naruto wonders if it is even possible and Sakura says he isn’t called the copy ninja for nothing. She goes on to say she finally understands how amazing he is and Naruto agrees.

From his tree, Jiraiya thinks to himself that they’re going to be there for a while. Tsunade says there is plenty of time until dawn and as long as Kakashi doesn’t take things too far they may see an end soon enough. Shizune agrees.

In the sand village, Kankuro and a group of sand ninja have gotten closer to the battle raging above. Gaara has now formed a giant fist that he is using in an attempt to catch Deidara (resembles his arm when he transforms into Shukaku). The giant hand grabs hold of a clay bird that explodes, temporarily destroying it until it reforms. Deidara thinks to himself that “it” is almost ready as his hand eats more clay out of his bag. His hands spit out two balls of clay and he shapes them into six birds. Deidara avoids a swipe from the massive hand and then tries to fly towards Gaara, but the sand responds and the hands takes another swipe at Deidara, forcing him to dodge once more. Deidara says to himself that the real show is about to start. Deidara dodges the sand hand once more and releases three of his clay birds. The clay birds explode the sand that is feeding the hand but they do nothing. Deidara releases the other three birds. A smaller hand appears and destroys one of the birds. Another bird flies into the sand that is feeding the hand but it has no effect. The third tries to explode near Gaara but his sand protects him. Gaara thinks to himself that Deidara is using strange explosives that can be used at a distance. Deidara reaches into his bags once more and realizes that Gaara has figured everything out.

Naruto and Sakura take a rest under a tree. Sakura tells Naruto that she always knew the sharingan wasn’t something to mess with and now she understands why. Naruto keeps a look out for Kakashi and agrees with Sakura. Sakura goes on to say that Kakashi also has incredible speed and they’ll never be able to catch him at this rate. We see a brief flashback of Kakashi performing the fire, earth, and water jutsus. Sakura tells Naruto that they don’t stand a chance at getting the bells unless they can occupy his hands. Naruto agrees and says Kakashi is so strong that it is almost unfair. He goes on to say that Kakashi is smarter than Shikamaru, has a better sense of smell than Kiba, has a better sharingan that Sasuke, has better taijutsu than Lee, and is more experienced than both of them. Sakura says that Kakashi must have a weakness and if they think about they can realize it. Naruto thinks for a moment and then realizes what it is.

Kakashi is also resting under a tree, thinking about how he can’t believe they forced him to use the sharingan so much. Kakashi knows he must hold out until dawn so he checks his supplies, seeing that he still has shuriken and kunai. While going through his bag, his hand touches his new book but he says to himself that Naruto and Sakura have become too skilled for him to read, even though he really wants to know what happens. Kakashi then says that it looks like the main character has some sort of incredible secret and he can’t wait to read what happens next.

Sakura asks a now laughing Naruto if he has really figured out Kakashi’s weakness. Naruto tells Sakura that if she thinks back to their time together with Kakashi then she’ll figure it out. Sakura tells him to stop stalling and spill it. Naruto tells Sakura his weakness. Sakura tells Naruto that she understands and that no one would’ve thought that he would have a weakness like “that”. Naruto says it makes sense when you think about it, it makes sense. Sakura agrees and says that they can now keep his hands busy and possibly his sharingan. Naruto begins to say that once they have opening that can go for the bells, but Sakura interrupts saying that he really is the number one most unpredictable ninja.

Kakashi thinks that he got a little over excited about how much they’ve grown and it is time to see what they’re up to.

Naruto tells Sakura now that they have a plan they should get ready for battle. Sakura agrees and the two head off.

Above the sand village, Gaara’s sand hand makes another go for Deidara but Deidara manages to get away. Deidara reaches into both of his bags and pulls out more clay. He creates to birds that he throws out, both exploding into plumes of smoke, and coming alive. Deidara says that they’re going to be faster and prepares to make them explode. Both birds fly past the giant hand, and begin evading Gaara’s sand defenses. Gaara tries to block the birds from coming any closer but Deidara causes them to explode.

Below, Kankuro yells out Gaara’s name.

Kakashi picks up Naruto and Sakura’s scent, realizing they’re nearby. Naruto and Sakura leap out towards Kakashi. Kakashi tells them they’re underestimating him and he can’t believe they’re attacking him head-on. Sakura tells Naruto to do it…

Kakashi freaks out, covering his ears. He realizes he can still read Naruto’s lips with his sharingan so he closes his eyes. When Kakashi opens his eyes, he sees Naruto and Sakura before him, each with a bell. Naruto tells him that a ninja must read what’s underneath the underneath. Kakashi tells them they got him and they all laugh.
